Frugal Fridays is a weekly blog event dedicated to producing great food on a budget. The idea was inspired by my wife, who mentioned to me that with the cost of living and fuel prices rising steadily, people would welcome a few less expensive recipe alternatives.

August 2008 Details:

THE THEME: A seasonal fruit or veg you’ve never cooked with before.

THE DATE: The first Thursday is August 7th. Entries are due by noon on Sunday, August 10th. Roundup goes up at 10am on Monday, August 11th.

This round-up event is all about original recipes: your own culinary concoctions and delicious creations. Why recipes we create ourselves? Because it is my strong belief that they usually turn out better than cookbook recipes.

If you read TNS, then you know the Thursday drill - I pick a recipe from my cookbook collection, make it as-written, then photograph and blog it. It’s been an invaluable experience; my cookbook collection has never gotten so much use and I learn a new method or work with a new ingredient almost every week. Why should I be the only one to reap these benefits?
