Sugar High Friday

The proper pairing of a sugary confection with a good wine is a difficult thing to maneuver. I have seen it done a few times in restaurants, once or twice at dinner parties and maybe done it once myself - and I almost certainly managed it by accident. Do you go sweeter with the wine than the dessert or match it? Do you go red or white or ice?

The theme for January 2010's SHF event is Sweet Comforts: Desserts you Turn to for Comfort.

Here is your opportunity to forget the calories and health-warnings and to prepare that one sweet treat that comforts you when you’re feeling blue.

Sugar High Fridays, the crazy-popular and long-running event, is taking a trip through dessert history! For the March 2009 incarnation of SHF your challenge is to make a dessert that is over a century old. Heirloom recipe, forgotten oddity, or new reinterpretation of an old classic - as long as it's 100+ years old, the rest is up to you!

This is October 2008 incarnation of Sugar High Friday. Create a dessert featuring a spice (or spices) of your choice. Submit to Dessert First by Monday, October 27th. Round-up will be on October 31st.

If you’re anything like me, you probably think that cupcakes do deserve their disputable standing. I mean, just a quick look around you, and the only thing you’ll see are colourful, sprinkle-packed, prettily piped buttercream topping tasteless (or even worse, awful-tasting) cakes baked in cups.
